Ontario Developmental Program (ODP)

4.5 to 9 years

Training: 4-8 hours/week

These programs are aimed at girls 4.5 – 9 years of age. The focus of the Ontario Developmental Program is to provide all those who participate with a structured gymnastics class where fun continues to be a main aspect of the program while developing fundamental skills and incorporating them on all apparatus. We also continue to emphasize the concept of fitness through developing the child's strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, concentration, body awareness and agility. This prepares the gymnast's body to learn and acquire the basic fundamental skills. At the same time, we start to develop some of the psychological aspects of gymnastics such as positive self-image, goal-setting, sportsmanship and a good level of self-confidence for each child.

Compulsory Competitive Program (OCP)

9+ years

Training: 6-12 hours/week

The Compulsory Competitive Program is geared toward girls ages 9 and up who have met the required skills for Junior Olympic (JO) Level 2 -5. The girls train 6 - 12 hours per week. Compulsory Competitive athletes are required to participate in three mandatory “qualifying” competitions over the season. After the third meet, their best two all-around scores will be averaged, and they will be placed on a ranking list with all other athletes in the province who are of the same age and level. Those girls who rank in the top 60% (roughly) will be offered an opportunity to compete at the Level 3-5 Provincial Championships.

The Provincial Competitive Program is for athletes ages 9+ who have met the requirements to compete in the Junior Olympic (JO) Levels 6-10 as determined by gymnastics Ontario. Optional Competitive athletes are required to participate in three mandatory “qualifying” competitions over the season. After the third meet, their best two all-around scores will be averaged, and they will be placed on a ranking list with all other athletes in the province who are of the same age and level. Those girls who rank in the top 40% (roughly) will be offered an opportunity to compete at Provincial Championships. Athletes in this program are expected to attend Provincial Championships if they qualify and any additional training camps as determined by Gymnastics Ontario and/or KGC.

National Competitive

9+ years

Training: 20+ hours/week

The National Competitive Program is for athletes ages 9+ who have met or have the potential to develop the requirements needed to participate in Gymnastics Canada’s Aspire and High Performance Programs. The girls will train 4 or 5 times per week for 5 hours each time (depending on their age). Athlete’s in the National Competitive Program are expected to attend all competitions, screening activities and training camps as determined by Gymnastics Canada, Gymnastics Ontario and Kawartha Gymnastics Club.

Xcel is a USAG program that is new to Ontario for athletes with varying abilities and aged 9+.  Athletes enjoy all the benefits that gymnastics has to offer, and it is ideal for those who have a passion for the sport and are looking for the competitive experience with a minimal time commitment.
Athletes will develop skills and routines that reflect their individual abilities on each event, and will be provided with opportunities to showcase and compete their routines.  Each gymnast will showcase/compete in one of three Xcel levels.
